I use them without the plastic covers because there really isnt a way to get them on. Its not a huge deal, but could be cleaner

Footrest pegs

They are built pretty solid and large enough for someone to rest their feet on. One thing that troubled me is that without a person on the back, I stood up to pedal up a hill and my heel smashes on the footrest. I am a size 7 shoe so if someone else tried, the same may happen. Therefore, I will take them off until I plan on riding someone on the back regularly. But overall good, you would need a longer bike or shorter pedals to stand and pedal up hill without hitting the foot rest ones.
